I just watched the move Gattaca and found it very intriguing! Now the film is about a man (Ethan Hawke) who is discriminated against because of his DNA. His high probability of dying before the age of 30 and other factors make it impossible for him to get a good job. Now, the idea of being discriminated based on DNA alone seems crazy right. Well interesting enough this movie was made in 1997 and just yesterday the first federal anti-discrimination law took effect, prohibiting employers from discriminating based on genetic makeup. Not to mention the fact that earlier this year, there was an article about a clinic in LA trying to improve the odds of hair, skin, eye color of babies. Perhaps this movie isn’t so crazy after all and giving us a glimpse into our future.
